Ribeye

Blood spreading on the plate
Bone-in ribeye
Rare baby rare

Pink edged mashed potatoes
Soaking up proof of prior life
We salivate
Salivate same as our hunting ancestors

Conversation spreads like cigar smoke
On the patio past bedtime
And eventually turns to gossip
"Can you believe she wore that dress?"

Someone sneezes and a silent hush follows
It's the days of pandemics after all

And selfishness is hip again
And the ribeye is delicious
And another conversation begins

This time it's a beautiful sun dress
Whirling around thin, lovely legs
From a teenage romcom
And a hush falls over the table
It's the days of searching for love afterall
